All of our sleep labs are fully accredited by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia to perform Polysomnography sleep study testing. Our accredited facilities provide a full scale of diagnostic and therapeutic services for people with sleep disorders. Sleep disorders can involve a wide range of diseases that impact an individuals health. To begin the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders patients submit to a sleep study in our Lab.
A “sleep study,” also called a Polysomnogram, is a non-invasive test that records your physical state during different stages of sleep. It provides data to assess sleep and sleep-related complaints and problems, such as identifying:
- Sleep stages
- Body position
- Blood oxygen levels
- Respiratory events
- Muscle tone
- Heart rate
- Eye movement
- Brain waves
- Amount of snoring and general sleep behavior
Our sleep specialist will use the findings of a sleep study along with other medical data to help determine a sleep problem and then provide the best treatment based on the results.
There are about eighty types of sleep disorders and the most common are :
- Obstructive Sleep Apnea
- Central Sleep Apnea
- Hypo-ventilation Syndrome
- Cheyne-Stokes Respiration
- Restless Legs or Periodic Limb Movements
