Meet the Team

Led by our Chief Medical Director – Dr. Wayne Lai – we are a team of experts that manage sleep disorders. Our team include specialists in Sleep Medicine, Neurology, Respirology and Internal Medicine. All of our Physicians and Technologists are board certified in their specialty.

Dr. Wayne Lai – Medical Director

Dr. Wayne Lai is a Neurologist and a Sleep Specialist. Dr. Wayne Lai has practiced medicine both in the United States and Canada since 2006. Dr. Wayne Lai completed his internal medicine training at Seton University in South Orange, New Jersey, USA and his Neurology and Sleep Medicine training at Case Western Reserve University – University Hospital of Cleveland, in Cleveland Ohio, USA. In 2010 he returned to Canada and opened his practice in Kelowna, BC.

Dr. Wayne Lai currently holds the following certifications and credentials:
  • Diplomat, American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Board certified in Neurology in 2008 and Sleep Medicine in 2009.
  • Diplomat, CSCN (EMG).
  • Previous medical director of the Sleep Lab at White River Health System, Arkansas USA, from 2007 – 2010.
  • Previous medical director of the Kelowna General Hospital Sleep Lab in Kelowna, BC.
  • Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at University of British Columbia.


Dr. Raj Bhui

Dr. Raj Bhui completed his postgraduate medical training in the United States, including the well-established fellowship in Sleep Medicine at Duke University. He is a member of the University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine and has experience with clinic-based and in-hospital medical practice in both Canada and the United States. Dr. Bhui has actively engaged in healthcare policy and leadership for many years and is passionate about teaching and excellence in healthcare.

Dr. Salima Amlani

Dr. Salima Amlani completed her training in Sleep Medicine at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. Her background includes certifications in both Internal Medicine and Respirology at Queen’s and McMaster Universities. Sleep Medicine has been Dr. Amlani’s primary practice focus since graduating including areas of sleep apnea, disorders of hypersomnolence, as well as how various disease conditions impact sleep.

Dr. Amlani currently holds the following certifications and credentials:
  • FRCPC, Internal Medicine and Respirology.
  • Fellow, Sleep Medicine.
  • Affiliated with the Kelowna General Hospital Sleep Lab in Kelowna, BC.
  • Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at University of British Columbia.

Dr. Susan Kwan

Dr Susan Kwan, Somnologist-expert in Sleep Medicine ESRS. She is an internal medicine specialist, respirologist, and intensive care specialist. She graduated from Hong Kong with distinctions and medals. She was a Commonwealth Scholar 1983-1985. She was trained in the Brompton Hospital, England. She started practice in British Columbia from 1995. She was a consultant respirologist to BCCDC. Dr Kwan is a Clinical Assistant Professor of the Faculty of Medicine, UBC. She was director of internal medicine and ICU, Burnaby Hospital. She is the Director of Pulmonary Function Service and Respirology of Burnaby Hospital.

Dr. Okorie

Dr. Eugene Okorie obtained his basic medical diploma from the University of Nigeria and completed his residency in General and Geriatry Psychiatry in the Republic of Ireland. He obtained his Master’s in Medical Science and Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Teaching at the National University of Ireland. He has obtained specialist certifications in Adult and Geriatric Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

As a practicing psychiatrist he appreciates the reciprocal relationship between sleep and mental disorders. He brings his psychiatric expertise to the assessment and care of patients with sleep difficulties.
